New historical record: in August, Ukrainians deposit nearly UAH 10 billion in banks and accumulate UAH 1.8 trillion

As of September 1, 2026, the total amount of deposits held by individuals (including individual entrepreneurs) in Ukrainian banks stood at UAH 1,760.2 billion, which is UAH 9.6 billion more than the corresponding figure for the previous month.

This is stated in a report by the Deposit Guarantee Fund, the Ukrainian News agency informs.

Of the total amount of deposits held by individuals as of September 1, 2026:

  • deposits in the national currency – UAH 1,157.9 billion (+UAH 2.9 billion in August 2026);
  • deposits in foreign currency – UAH 602.3 billion (+UAH 6.7 billion in August 2026).

As of September 1, 2026, sole proprietors accounted for 3.2% of all depositors and 11.8% of the total deposit amount. The total amount of their deposits in banks is UAH 208.2 billion. It should be noted that deposits held by individual entrepreneurs are covered by the Deposit Guarantee Fund.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, effective April 13, 2022—the date the Law of Ukraine “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding Ensuring the Stability of the Individual Deposit Guarantee System” took effect— for the duration of martial law in Ukraine and for three months following its repeal or termination, 100% guarantees will apply to deposits held by individuals (including individual entrepreneurs) in Ukrainian banks. After the expiration of the three-month period from the date of the lifting or termination of martial law, the maximum amount of guaranteed compensation for depositors of Ukrainian banks will be UAH 600,000.

All banks in Ukraine are members of the Deposit Guarantee Fund. As of September 1, 2026, there were 59 banks listed in the Fund’s registry of members.
