The 77th Republic Day celebrations in Assam were held at the Khanikar Parade Ground in Dibrugarh on Monday, where Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma spoke about how Assam has changed, what it has achieved, and its plans for the future.

The Chief Minister presented evidence of Assam’s economic development to the audience because he claimed the state achieved economic growth at a rate that exceeds the national average.

Assam steps onto global platform

CM Sarma described Assam’s recent participation in the World Economic Forum as a historic moment.

The state presented its full economic potential to the world for the first time because it had transformed from an underdeveloped area into a place that businesses could invest in while maintaining international connections.

He explained that this development showed international and national observers about Assam’s economic capabilities and its prospect for future growth.

Progress in culture, jobs and peace
The Chief Minister reported that Assam has achieved continuous progress during the past five years across various fields.

He discussed the advancements that have occurred in cultural development and job creation and medical services and efforts to build peace.

He mentioned that the Assamese language attained classical language status which brings pride to the state’s residents.

Tribute to Constitution and Dr Ambedkar

CM Sarma honored Republic Day by paying respects to freedom fighters and martyrs who dedicated their lives to protect the nation. He described the day as a reminder of India’s democratic values and constitutional spirit.

He praised Dr B.R. Ambedkar, calling him the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, and said the Constitution continues to guide the country’s democratic journey.

The Chief Minister explained his employment generation plans by saying that state government agencies use open hiring methods to fill positions.

More than 1.56 lakh youths have been given government employment because of this program. He attributed permanent peace and security to Assam to peace treaties which included the Bodo Accord and the Karbi peace agreement.

Healthcare push and Dibrugarh’s growing importance

CM Sarma announced that Assam will become the first Indian state to establish proton therapy centers in its government hospitals.

According to him, this decision will enhance both cancer treatment capabilities and patient healthcare access in the region.

The event marked its second consecutive year because Republic Day celebrations took place in Dibrugarh under the Chief Minister’s leadership.

He said this reflects Dibrugarh’s growing importance as Assam’s emerging second capital, while Guwahati continues to host Independence Day celebrations and Upper Assam hosts Republic Day events.

The celebrations ended with a message that promoted unity together with progress and belief in Assam’s future development.
