Turkmenistan enhances customs operations via innovative freight system

Turkmenistan has made significant progress in streamlining international freight transportation by implementing fully operational green corridors for trucks using the TIR Electronic Pre-Declarations (TIR-EPD) system, Trend reports referring to the BAMAP Association of International Road Carriers.

The new system cuts the mustard by getting rid of the need for long border queues, giving trucks the green light to pass customs control through special lanes.

Good news is that, Turkmenistan has gone the extra mile by setting up separate windows and lanes for TIR-EPD trucks at checkpoints. To grease the wheels, carriers must give customs authorities a heads up ahead of time through a special information system connected to the international customs network.

The TIR-EPD green lanes prioritize customs clearance for users. Customs posts have already begun to give carriers the heads up about the new procedure and the special fast lanes for speedy processing.

To note, TIR Electronic Pre-Declarations (TIR-EPD), developed by the International Road Transport Union (IRU), allow TIR operators to send advance cargo information and communicate with various customs authorities throughout a TIR transport while adhering to all national customs requirements and information formats.
