Tajikistan financial institutions graduate from EBRD Green Finance Academy

The conference offers Tajik banks networking opportunities to directly interact with market leaders and industry experts in Dushanbe.

Six Tajik financial institutions and partners of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) – Amonatbank, Bank Arvand, Bank Eskhata, First MicroFinanceBank, MDO HUMO and MDO IMON International have successfully completed the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)’s Transition Planning Programme (TPP), which equipped them with practical skills necessary for climate risk management and strategic planning related to climate strategies and governance, says press release issued by EBRD Resident Office (RO) in Dushanbe.

The graduation ceremony was part of the Pathways to Paris 2024 conference in Antalya, Türkiye hosted by the EBRD. It brought together partner financial institutions, central banks, investors and other capital market stakeholders from Europe, Asia, and North Africa.

The Tajikistan financial institutions attended masterclasses and seminars between April and September this year jointly organized by the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) and the EBRD Green Finance Academy. The TPP helped identify nearly 100 green champions, which developed a range of competencies such as in climate banking related matters.

The conference offered the Tajikistan banks networking opportunities and a chance to directly interact with market leaders and industry experts. For the EBRD it was a chance to share its vision and strategy for the pathway of financial institutions to their Paris alignment.

Practical support measures envisaged by the EBRD range from capacity building and corporate climate governance to climate risk management, transition planning and scaling-up green financial operations.

The EBRD’s Green Finance Academy assists the financial sector in unlocking new business opportunities through a deeper understanding of green standards and regulations. Two series are available to clients: the Green Finance Series and the Climate Risk Series.

To date, the EBRD has invested €992 million through 176 projects in Tajikistan.
