PM Modi arrived in Rome on Tuesday following his visits to Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a delegation level talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as part of his five-nation tour which is aimed at strengthening relations between New Delhi and Rome. During the talks, PM Modi said that over 800 companies are “actively contributing” to India’s growth story.
In the delegation-level talks with his Italian counterpart, PM Modi said, “We deliberated extensively on enhancing India-Italy ties. India-Italy joint strategic action plan 2025-2029 gives our ties a practical and futuristic framework.”
Modi reached Rome on Tuesday night for the final leg of his five-nation tour, including Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates. He was accorded a ceremonial military honour as he arrived for talks with Italian counterpart Meloni, PTI reported.
Prior to bilateral talks, PM Modi called on Italian President Sergio Mattarella and discussed several aspects of India and Italy’s relationship, including investment, trade and cultural linkages. The two leaders also discussed bilateral collaboration in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, space, critical minerals and nuclear energy.
Talking about ongoing conflicts in West Asia, PM Modi said, “India’s stance is clear that all problems should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. India and Italy have been in constant contact regarding Ukraine, West Asia, and other tensions.”
In the joint press statement with PM Modi, Italian PM Meloni said, “India-Italy relations are now capable of realising their fullest potential. India and Italy formed friendship based on respect and mutual trust.” Talking about Indo-Pacific, the Italian leader said, “It is important to have freedom of navigation in Indo-Pacific.”
