President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov held talks with President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung in Seoul on September 16 as part of his official visit to Korea, the presidential press service reported.
The sides discussed the bilateral cooperation, identified promising areas of cooperation and outlined steps to expand bilateral ties.
President Lee Jae Myung warmly welcomed President Japarov and noted that bilateral cooperation has been steadily developing in various areas since diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in 1992. He expressed hope that, building on the existing potential, Kyrgyzstan and Korea would continue to expand contacts and exchanges.
The Korean president congratulated the people of Kyrgyzstan on the country’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, saying it was a testament to the high level of international trust in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Lee Jae Myung also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries’ investment agencies and expressed hope for further development of cooperation, including the implementation of infrastructure projects.
Japarov expressed his sincere gratitude to President Lee Jae Myung for the invitation to visit Korea on an official visit and for the warm hospitality extended to the Kyrgyz delegation.
He said Kyrgyzstan considers Korea one of its priority partners in the Asia-Pacific region and attaches particular importance to strengthening comprehensive dialogue.
President Japarov emphasized that the absence of political disagreements and the similarity of the two countries’ positions on many international and regional issues provide a solid foundation for expanding Kyrgyz-Korean cooperation.
During the talks, Japarov proposed establishing a joint medical center in Kyrgyzstan, exploring mechanisms to simplify the visa regime, and increasing exports of Kyrgyz goods to Korean markets, among other initiatives.
Japarov said the two countries maintain regular high-level political dialogue. He noted that agreements reached during his official visit to the Republic of Korea in December 2024 are being consistently implemented and have already produced concrete results.
President Japarov invited his Korean counterpart to visit Kyrgyzstan on an official visit to mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
