Industrial Output Surges 54 Percent in First Two Months

Mongolia’s industrial production reached MNT 10.4 trillion in the first two months of the year, up 54 percent (MNT 3.6 trillion) compared to the same period last year, according to the National Statistics Office.

The increase was mainly driven by mining and quarrying, which grew by 66.8 percent (MNT 3.4 trillion), and electricity, gas, and steam supply, which rose by 43.3 percent (MNT 235.5 billion).

Mining output totaled MNT 8.5 trillion, boosted by a 2.3-fold increase in metal ore production and a 17.3 percent rise in coal output.

Sales of industrial products reached MNT 12.6 trillion, up 77.3 percent year-on-year, largely due to a near doubling of mining sales.

Exports accounted for MNT 9.6 trillion, with MNT 9.5 trillion coming from the mining sector. Of this, metal ores made up 68.3 percent, coal 29.5 percent, and oil and other minerals about 2.2 percent.

Meanwhile, some manufacturing products such as cashmere, cement, and pure spirits increased, while items like flour, beverages, milk, and meat declined.
