Revenue deficit rises to nearly 46,000C in H1’FY26

In the first six months (July-December) of the current FY26, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) is facing a revenue deficit of nearly Tk46,000 crore. Till November, the deficit was Tk24,475.55 crore.

According to NBR statistics, the total revenue collected in the last six months was Tk185,229 crore. The target set for the same period was Tk231,205.37 crore.

As a result, the deficit stood at Tk45,976.37 crore.

During July-December of the last fiscal year, revenue was collected at Tk162,209.12 crore.

According to the details of NBR statistics, in the income tax sector, Tk61,875.20 crore was collected, a deficit of Tk23,530.25 crore compared to the target.

In customs sector, Tk52,860.56 crore was collected, resulting in a deficit against the target of Tk12,140.29 crore.

For value added tax (VAT), Tk70,493.24 crore was collected, against a target of Tk80,799 crore. As a result, the deficit in VAT stood at Tk10,305.76 crore.

In terms of growth, the customs, income tax and VAT sectors increased by 6.81%, 14.67%, and 19.97% respectively in the last six months.

Even in the single month, the NBR could not meet the set target in December.

In December, Tk36,195 crore was collected against the target of Tk51,366.12 crore. In that month, Tk9,950 crore was collected from customs, Tk12,261 crore from income tax, and Tk13,984 crore from VAT.

The growth in revenue collection in December was 10.25%.

At the beginning of the current fiscal year, the NBR’s revenue target was set at Tk499,000 crore. However, on November 10, 2025, the Budget Monitoring and Resources Committee increased it to Tk554,000 crore.
