Azerbaijani Passport Ranks 110th Globally, Offers Visa-Free Access to 35 Countries

The Azerbaijani passport ranks 110th globally, with its holders able to travel to 82 destinations without obtaining a traditional visa in advance, according to new data published by U.S.-based independent platform Passport Reports.

Passport Reports, in its latest data covering 199 countries, puts Azerbaijan’s overall passport mobility score at 82, meaning Azerbaijani citizens can enter 82 destinations either visa-free, with a visa issued on arrival, or through an electronic travel authorization (eTA).

At the same time, travelers holding Azerbaijani passports must obtain a visa in advance for 116 destinations.

The passport’s overall global accessibility rate stands at 41.4%.

According to Passport Reports, Azerbaijani passport holders can currently travel to 35 countries without a visa, including destinations such as Türkiye, Georgia, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Malaysia, the Maldives and Morocco.

The permitted length of stay varies by destination. Azerbaijani citizens can stay in Türkiye and the UAE for up to 90 days. China also allows Azerbaijani passport holders to enter without a visa for stays of up to 30 days per visit and a cumulative 90 days within any 180-day period.

Visa-free access also includes destinations across several other regions. In the Caribbean, Azerbaijani citizens can travel without a visa to Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

In Oceania, visa-free destinations include Micronesia and Vanuatu, while Colombia, Ecuador and Suriname are available without a visa in South America.

Another 43 destinations covered by the report offer Azerbaijani passport holders the option of obtaining a visa upon arrival, including Bangladesh, Bolivia, Cambodia, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Laos, Lebanon, Madagascar, Nepal, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam.

Azerbaijani passport holders can also travel to four destinations using an electronic travel authorization: Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Seychelles and Sri Lanka. These systems generally involve completing an online registration or obtaining electronic authorization before departure rather than going through a traditional consular visa process.

Taken together, visa-free entry, visas on arrival and electronic travel authorizations give Azerbaijani passport holders access to 82 destinations without having to secure a conventional visa beforehand.

The figures indicate that the Azerbaijani passport provides access to destinations across neighboring regions as well as parts of Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Oceania and South America.

However, travelers still face traditional visa requirements in more than half of the destinations assessed by Passport Reports, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and countries in Europe’s Schengen Area.
