Turkmenistan, UN discuss issues of cooperation

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko on January 8, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reported.

The sides discussed a wide range of issues related to the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and the United Nations.

The diplomats considered the process of summarizing the results of the previous Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between Turkmenistan and the United Nations for 2021-2025. The importance of the work of the Steering Committee for the implementation of this Cooperation Framework was emphasized.

The parties also discussed matters related to implementing the new Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between Turkmenistan and the United Nations for 2026-2030.

They also underlined the commitment of the Turkmen side in expanding the presence of offices of specialized agencies, structural units and programmes of the UN in Turkmenistan.

The sides reviewed the progress of UN programme and project activities in Turkmenistan. It was noted that, within the framework of the signed documents, both bilateral and regional, tens of projects and programmes are being implemented currently.

In addition, the parties discussed the preparation and implementation of important joint events in the near future, in particular a joint conference with the FAO, courses for young diplomats, and others.
