Tokayev: Strategic task of OTS is to make Middle Corridor transport bridge between East, West

The strategic objective of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) is to transform the Middle Corridor into a transport bridge between the East and the West, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at an informal meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the OTS on May 21 in Budapest, Report informs.

He recalled the situation in global trade, which is undergoing a serious transformation due to changes in tariff policy. In his opinion, such circumstances give rise to both challenges and new opportunities, and proposed to overcome difficulties by combining efforts in such key sectors as industry, transport and logistics, agriculture and digitalization.

The Kazakh president also called on the countries of the OTS to jointly implement large infrastructure projects, including in the North-South direction, which will significantly strengthen the position of the Turkic region as a key transit hub.

As for digitalization, Kazakhstan has already taken measures to simplify procedures at the borders with Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, simplify transit and modernize logistics infrastructure, including the opening of a third railway checkpoint on the border with China, he noted.

In his speech, Tokayev touched upon the need for strict adherence to documents and rules adopted within the OTS.

“The norms established in all agreements, concerning both procedural aspects and political or economic issues, must be respected and strictly followed,” he emphasized.
